I am a prisoner in Victoria Gaol undergoing a

montas imprisonment with H.L. for keeping a con-

-mon gaming house at No.2 Wa Lane.

I recognise the paper produced. It is a list of

the persons to whom bribes were paid in respect of the gambling

house at No.2 Wa Lane. I wrote it myself. It is in the same con-

-dition that it was when in my possession.

It has not been altered in any way. I do not

know the Inspector present. There is an entry in the list of bribed

persons referring to No.89.

It is the entry "89 $1. 10/100 Tang". That means

that I paid to Tang Chung for Inspector No.89 the sum of $1.10/100

a day. This money was paid in order to keep the gambling house

open.

The payment was made when the gambling was started.

The gambling was started in the 3th. moon of the year of the great

Plague (1894). Tang Chung, a Sergeant in the Hongkong Police,

came to me and said "No.89 is not now in charge of the section in

which Wu bane is, but you should give him something." Tang Chung

said that formerly he was in charge of the section in which Wa

Lane is situated. Fang Chung said "give him $1 a day and 10 cents
